Move Files Between a Phone and a Computer

Use a download link or QR code in either direction, without a cable or a shared account.

Choose the direction of the handoff

JustSeconds can move a selected file between a computer and a phone by uploading a temporary copy, then downloading it on the other device. You do not need a cable or to sign in to the same account on both devices. Both devices do need an internet connection.

The QR code is especially convenient when the file starts on a computer: show the code on the computer screen and scan it with the phone. In the other direction, sending the completed link to a conversation you can open on your computer is often simpler than trying to scan the phone screen.

Computer to phone: scan the completed transfer

  1. Open the JustSeconds uploader on the computer and choose the file. If using registered options, set the password and expiration first.
  2. Wait until the completion screen shows the finished share link and QR code.
  3. Point the phone’s camera or QR scanner at that code and open the detected address.
  4. Check the transfer details on the phone, then choose Download File. Enter the transfer password if prompted.
  5. Open the phone’s downloads or file manager to find the saved file.

Scanning opens a download page; it does not put the complete file inside the QR code. The phone still uses its network connection to download. Choose a suitable connection for a large file rather than assuming the scan is a local wireless transfer.

Phone to computer: send the link

  1. Open JustSeconds on the phone. Choose the actual file from the phone’s picker and leave the browser active during upload.
  2. Wait for Your file is uploaded, then copy the share link.
  3. Paste it into an email, a message you can open on the computer, or another conversation you control. You can also use the completion screen’s email option.
  4. Open the full link on the computer, check the transfer details, and download.
  5. Open the saved file to confirm it is the expected version before deleting any local copy.

The recipient side does not require a JustSeconds account. If using a work or shared computer, consider whether that device should hold a copy of the file and whether the browser will leave a download behind.

Folders and several files need packaging

A desktop folder can be packaged into a ZIP by the uploader. The phone then downloads that archive and needs a file manager capable of extracting it. The device needs room for both the archive and the extracted files.

The current mobile folder option selects photos and videos, rather than a general desktop-style directory. For a folder containing different document types, create a ZIP on the phone first and upload the ZIP as one file, or use a computer for the folder selection.

Where did the downloaded file go?

Browsers and operating systems handle downloads differently. Look in the browser’s downloads list first, then the device’s file manager. An image downloaded as a file may not appear in a photo gallery immediately, and a ZIP will not appear as an album of extracted photographs until you open and extract it.

The service does not automatically save files into a recipient’s photo library, install a native app, or synchronize a folder across devices. Once downloaded, you can move the file using the destination device’s own tools.

If the handoff fails

Confirm that the sender saw upload completion before sharing. A QR code or copied address for a transfer that never finished cannot stand in for a successful upload. Try opening the full link directly to distinguish a scanning problem from a transfer problem.

If the transfer is expired or disabled, the download page cannot restore it merely because you still have the QR image. Ask the sender for a new transfer. If the file downloads but does not open, check whether the destination device has an app that supports its format.

Finish without leaving your only copy online

Guests can send 5 GB total during a rolling 24-hour window, with 7-day transfers. Free registered accounts can send 50 GB total in that window and choose expiration up to 30 days. Download on the destination device before that deadline and keep an original until the handoff is confirmed.

Anyone with an active unprotected link may download it. Send private links only through conversations you control, and avoid displaying a private transfer’s QR code where someone else can scan it.
